The membership desk is like a hotel's reception desk...

You will be able to:
Open an account at the
casino, thereby becoming a (new) member.
Modify an existing account
(you will have to log in first).
Delete an existing account
(you will have to log in first).
Clear an existing account
after you have forgotten your pass phrase, or accidentily
de-installed the game.
Open an account
Choose a username, and a reasonably long pass phrase (which you
have to type twice). Fill out all your profile data in the Profile
tab. Be serious in filling out your profile! It will be used to mail
a cheque back to you after you have won! When you are done, press the
[add me as a member] button. If a member with your
username does already exist, you will have to try again. Your
username will be unique.
Modify your account
First make sure you are already logged in (have presented
your membership card).
You may now modify your account (one or both):
Your passphrase
Your profile data (click the
Profile tab to do so)
However, you will always have to type your (new or old)
pass phrase twice here for increased security.
Delete your account
First make sure you are already logged in (have presented
your membership card).
You may now delete your, or another account. However, you will
always have to type your pass phrase (once) here for increased
security. It is not allowed to delete an account whose balance is
different from zero (ie., with money on it).
PANIC option: Clear an account
First make sure you are already logged in (have presented
your membership card). You may argue that you cannot do this
when you lost your pass phrase. Oh well, almost! What you have to do
is: Open another account (cf. above), log in using this new
account, and come back here (we require you to do this so, at least
we have a hint about who does attempt to clear your account...).
Now, fill out the username of the account you want to clear, and
press the [clear my account & cash back]
button. If the account had money deposited on it, it will be payed
back to you using a default method (eg., by an US bank cheque mailed
to you using your profile's address). After this, the account will be
deleted (but nevertheless, you cannot reuse the username).
Security advice
You have an interest to protect your data. The money you have
deposited onto the casino's account IS REAL MONEY like the one
on your bank's account!
This program helps you as much as possible to keep your data
secret:
Choose a username which is
distinct from, eg. your first name. An alias is harder to guess.
(Note however, that the program remembers the most recently used
username for your convenience).
Choose a complete phrase rather
than a password. Note that punctuation and blanks as well as case of
characters do matter!
Do not share your pass phrase
with anybody else, nor write it down. The program will never
record your pass phrase! The casino's employees will never
ask you for your pass phrase!
All your data is always
transmitted to the casino server in strongly encrypted form.
An individual ID code will be
stored on your local computer! Neither You, nor anybody else will be
able to use your account on a different computer. If you want to
gamble on different computers, you will need to open several
accounts! This protects you from somebody peeking your
pass phrase by whatever means. If you gamble on a networked
computer, and install the game on a network drive, any computer
sharing this network drive will be considered your local
computer. You then have to trust the security means of your network
operating system. Note that normally UNIX is considered more
trustworthy than Windows NT in this respect.
Note however, that somebody could
still STEAL the ID code from your hard disk, AND
PEEK your pass phrase. If you fear that this may have
happened, you can immediately [clear my account & cash
back] from the membership desk. You may do this from any
account, eg. a new one you just opened on purpose. The money will be
transferred back by a default method (eg. by a US bank cheque mailed
to the address given in the profile tab of the membership
desk). This cash back option will not use profile data newer than
one month (so a thief cannot simply redirect cash back to him).
